Wild Orient by Microgaming
Microgaming’s aggressive new slot release schedule continues at pace and while we’ve had at least two new games to play every month so far, we’re yet to see something that has really wowed us. The latest game to take on that challenge is Wild Orient and it is a game that kind of looks like a combination of Untamed Giant Panda and Asian Beauty, and shares plenty of their gameplay elements too. In fairness, there’s a certain charm to the visual style and this game is a candidate for at least being Microgaming’s best looking 2016 release so far, so let’s take a closer look at what it brings to the table in terms of gameplay.
243 Ways to Win
Wild Orient does get off to a bit of a flyer in gameplay terms with 243 ways to win across a regular five-reel board. This offers a healthy number of potential winning combinations on every spin and help is at hand when it comes to completing them thanks to the presence of the Wild Orient logo as the wild card, which can appear on reels two and four.
Before we get on to the main feature, it is worth noting that Wild Orient also shares a feature with two of the developer’s February releases, namely Bikini Party and Dragon Dance. With the Reel Respin option, players can opt to spin a single reel for a price set by the game itself. The more likely that a respin is to improve the board, the more it will take in order to take that chance. We’re not sure if this is going to become a fixture of Microgaming slots going forward but that’s two months in a row now where the option has been there.
Wild Orient Free Spins
The main feature mentioned previously is, unsurprisingly, a free spins bonus round. The scatter symbol can land in any position and three of them on the board at the same time will trigger fifteen free games and a three times multiplier. Landing another trio of scatters on a free spin will add fifteen more to the total, something that more than makes up for the absence of the respin option within the bonus itself.
The most disappointing thing about Wild Orient is that it feels like yet another clone of Dragon Dance and Bikini Party and, with Dragon Dance already having the Oriental theme covered, it feels a little unnecessary. However, as we said, it could well be one of the best looking releases of recent times and you can see how it is all pulled together for yourself with absolutely no risk by playing right here on the page or for cash at one of our top Microgaming casinos.
