Sherlock Holmes by IGT
You know that a character is doing pretty well for itself when three different movies and television shows come to mind that a game could be based on. We’ll spoil the surprise a little here and say that IGT has opted to make use of the 2008 film by Guy Ritchie as the subject matter and that means a return to the reels for Robert Downey Jr, this time without his suit of Iron, together with assistance from Jude Law as Dr Watson. It’s rare for IGT to get things wrong on any of its branded games and we can’t see them starting now, but let’s find out!
Thirty Lines and a Bonus Bet
There are thirty lines on Sherlock Holmes, although you’ll be paying for sixty thanks to the bonus bet. Some players see this as a bit of a cheeky addition to any game but it’s pretty much essential here. For starters it isn’t even optional and there’s also the fact that there’s not even a wild card in the base game – without the bonus bet you may as well be playing a classic slot. Fortunately, the bonuses don’t take long to make themselves known as there are a couple in the base game which kick off with the mystery multiplier. It doesn’t get simpler than this, as any win could be boosted at random by a multiplier of up to ten times the standard value. This feature is joined by the teamwork feature, which can see Holmes and Watson coming together as a single symbol, which is worth three times as much as the individual symbols. The whole is, after all, worth more than the sum of its parts!
The Sherlock Holmes Picker Puzzle
Those features are nice to see, but hardly worth a bonus bet, and it’s the Picker Puzzle where that addition to your stake really makes up for its money. A cog on reels one, three and five will trigger it and players are taken to a pick a win round. You can find cash, but you’ll be more interested in matching up three or four of the same item where possible. Doing so can lead to a wheel of fortune game where players keep on spinning and winning as long as they have an active pointer. Landing on Blackwood will knock a pointer out, but landing on Holmes will bring them all back into the fray instantly. When you’re out of pointers, you’re out of luck as your prize is tallied and it’s back into the base game.
It’s also possible to discover the Hunt bonus and this is the chance for free spins fans to shine. Ten or fifteen spins are awarded depending on whether the round was triggered with three or four objects and five symbol areas are chosen before these spins play out. Land a Holmes or Watson symbol in one of these areas and it will freeze in place as a wild card for the rest of the round. Hit all five at some point during the bonus and your final tallied prize will be doubled at the end of the game.
We’ve never even seen Sherlock Holmes – The Hunt for Blackwood but that has done nothing to dampen our enthusiasm for the official slot game. This title is notably different to the norm and lots of fun to play whether you’re a fan or not.
