Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica Official Microgaming Slot

Microgaming is right near the forefront of the action when it comes to branded slot games, but one that often flies under the radar is Battlestar Galactica. We have to admit to not knowing all that much about the show and it may well be the case that slots players and fans of the series don’t have all that much in common. However, even with limited knowledge of exactly what goes on with the show, we were able to look at the game objectively and conclude that it is a more than welcome addition to the existing branded range from the developer.

243 Ways to Win

The game came around at the same kind of time as other leading branded slots like Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 – Judgement Day, so it will come as no surprise to players to see that the action takes place over 243 ways to win. That’s an all pays format that ensures that adjacent symbols can always be good for a big win, while also serving to make the wild card, depicted in this case by the Battlestar Galactica logo, even more important than normal.

Fans of the show will appreciate the photorealistic depictions of what we can only assume are the main stars, who are joined on the board by playing card icons and scatters.

Playing the Game

Before getting on to the main features, it is important to point out one of the main parts of the game. The action takes place across three different game modes, which can each be triggered at random. Players may be in Normal mode, where both the Ion Storm and free spins bonuses can be triggered in the standard way. In the Run mode, wins pay both left to right and right to left and it becomes possible to trigger the Jump bonus. Finally, players may be in Fight mode, which sees an additional wild card being added to the board.

The Ion Storm bonus is a base game extra that triggers randomly and sees a storm hitting the board. Between one and five reels will be turned completely wild as part of this process, potentially even making the whole board wild. Free spins, which are only available in Normal and Fight mode, are triggered by landing three or more spaceship scatters on one spin. In Normal mode, fifteen spins are awarded with a three times multiplier. In Fight mode, the number of spins rises to twenty and a further extra wild is added to the board. Players will also have the chance to land more spins.

Finally, the Jump bonus of the Run mode is triggered when an FLT symbol lands on the middle reel. All of the playing card icons are removed from the board and the FLT symbol can then fill in as any of the other character symbols. The reels remain this way until the mode changes once again.

Battlestar Galactica is yet another cracking branded slot from Microgaming that really pushes the feature limits in a direction that we had never seen before. Even if you’ve never seen the show, you’ll want to see the slot game, and you can do that without delay by heading back to the top of this review and enjoying all of the action for free!
